Conscience, Character and Courage

Hacksaw Ridge is Mel Gibson's latest movie, a biography of 1945 Medal of Honor recipient Desmond T. Doss. When WWII broke out, Doss was offered the opportunity to avoid military service because his faith did not allow him to participate in acts of violence. Yet Doss declined, opting to serve as a "conscientious cooperator" in the medical corps. Doss refused to carry a gun because he sought to save life rather than take it. His physical courage in the face of enemy fire was immense, yet it paled in comparison with the moral courage he showed in defense of his conscience.
Leaders and their teams can learn an invaluable lesson about fear, faith, courage and conscience from this “Unlikeliest Hero.”
